Mukutmanipur is a village in Bankura district
of West Bengal, India. It
is located close to the Jharkhand border at the confluence of the Kangsabati
and Kumari rivers.In 1956, a water dam reservoir was planned at Mukutmanipur,
under a big vision mooted by the then CM of Bengal Dr Bidhan Ch. Roy. It was
one of Largest
earthen dam in India. The road over the dam is 11 km in length.
A very nice place is surrounded by smaller island,hills and the
beautiful dam. Located at 49 kms from Bankura City, it has good transport facility.A small serene town that it is, it attracts many tourists who
come here in the search of a peaceful vacation. Mukutmanipur is
a popular picnic destination for more than a decade and ranks among the top ten
popular picnic destinations of Bengal.
Mukutmanipur is one such place where there are many sightseeing
spots around. It’s a place where people go to relax and unwind, far away from
the crowded and busy city life. The natural beauty of the place with an
incredibly beautiful lake created by the dam, nestled among thickly forested
hillocks is enough to mesmerize you, and you can spend hours simply gazing at
the blue waters of the lake or taking a stroll on the dam or boating on the
lake water.
Mukutmanipur
and Jhilimili (28kms from mukutmanipur dam) nearby are major tourist
attractions visited by more than a one lakh visitors.
Most attractive
place is the Mukutmanipur Dam, especially when water flows across the rocky
river. Special attraction point is Deer Park, 5.5 kms away from the main place
and is connected through ferry service.an awesome experience and gives a unique
chance of being alone with nature in a lonely island.

Approximately 2 Kms from the dam is
the Bangopalpur Reserve Forest, a home of many species of flora and fauna.
Mukutmanipur attracts tourists as well religious people. The small town called Ambikanagar, 4kms away from the dam a significant amount of Jains on a daily basis due to it being a pilgrimage Centre for Jains. Besides Jainism temples, there are many other temples in Ambikanagar which are dedicated to Hindu deities.
While Mukutmanipur can be visited throughout
the year, but the summers here are very hot with the mercury reaching 45 degree
Celsius as the max temperature. Monsoon months are pleasant, but sometimes
tourist activities was suspended during these months because of heavy rainfall.
The best time to visit Mukutmanipur is from November to February. It is best to
visit Mukutmanipur during winters season as the weather is the most pleasant.
From Bankura one can take a bus till
Mukutmanipur itself. Train journey from Howrah to Bankura : 5 hrs
approximately. Bus journey from Bankura to Mukutmanipur is about 1.3 hrs.
Buses are also available directly from Kolkata to Mukutmanipur with journey
time 7-8hrs. Or you can book a car from bankura.
